Mastering My First Triathlon from Zero to Success
The Challenge
During the pandemic, I found myself looking for a challenge, something that would push me both mentally and physically. After returning to open-water swimming in my 40s, a triathlon seemed like the perfect fit.
The Struggle
But getting the right gear was a struggle—finding the perfect bike, shoes for cycling and running, tri-suits, and everything else in between was a challenge.
Getting Ready
Regarding training, a friend recommended the book "Be IronFit" which changed everything. Training using heart rate zones was a game changer. With its guidance, I followed a six-month training plan to conquer my first Ironman.
The Unexpected
When training for my first Olympic triathlon, scheduled for the 18th week, I accidentally twisted my ankle. I had to visit an orthopedic doctor, undergo a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan, and begin physiotherapy to recover and be ready for my first challenge. Nobody told me about all the risks I might face on the road.
